In case you're bored this summer

Ellie's put together a fabulous list of things you can do.
It's from a trip to Grandma's house, but it applies well to summer vacation.

It makes me smile every time I see it.

Birthday Girl

I sure love this birthday girl of mine.

9 whole years old.
WOW.

Where have the years gone?

Too bad I can't squeeze her and kiss her like that anymore!
But I love the grown-up version of Lydia just as much.

Pierced

She had permission last year when she turned 8,
but she wasn't ready until her younger cousin Katie did it first.
She watched the video of it on their blog...
but said "after school gets out."
then "after my birthday."

So the first day of summer vacation, I up and asked her,
"do you want to get your ears pierced today?"

and she said, YES!

It was a regular Howell family circus in Icing.
Carver tangled a bunch of necklaces.
Grace and Ellie fell in love with all things sparkly.
All three were sticky from suckers the lady gave them.

Lydia picked pretty turquoise earrings first thing.
She was so brave, even though they were pierced one at a time.

Aren't they perfect?
Lydia is so grown up!

Instead of blogging

Excuses, excuses. I've been a terrible blogger. I'm not even good at facebook and that's MUCH quicker. But somehow it seems too clever for me or something. Anyway, this is what I've been doing instead of blogging.

I never posted the cute pictures from our visit to my parents' house that made the Bend trip even possible. My new tradition of porch pictures as we leave the grandparent's house. I sincerely hope they forgive me for torturing us like this every time, but aren't they fun to see?

My dad took these at the really cool park by their house. It is AMAZING to have such a good picture of Carver. I love this one!

In addition to Carver's wound care for burns, Grace wanted to join the party. After we walked in the front door from our Bend trip, she ran out and stuck her finger in Derek's bike wheel. He said, "Don't play with my bike, you'll get hurt" about 1 second before she cried out in pain. Lots of blood and tears, a quick trip to the ER later and we've got wound care for the littlest one, too. I really don't play nurse well, so my dad and Derek were there for this one. Despite their best efforts, Grace felt every stitch and so they didn't do very many. Done small, there could've been 8 or so? Grace doesn't like to see it. I'm totally with her on that. Discoloration, swelling, sloughing, it's enough to give me anxiety about my kids walking around the house! Fortunately for all of us, there's a Dora bandaid when you need one. And believe me, it HAS to be Dora. :)

And of course, school ended this week. Carver "graduated" from one year of preschool to the next - in style. The goggles were a gift from his teacher.

Oh, the joy of the last day of school. I'm glad that I could walk to the bus stop to see these cute girls come barreling off the bus - in RAIN COATS, for crying out loud.

It was Carver's last day, too. What a little crumb-cake. He looks so big kid right there.

This year I'm super excited to have these crazy kids home with me. We've had tears and fighting, potty training moments, enormous messes and a wild trip to the mall already. But I think we're all ready for a change of pace and I sure love having the freedom to do whatever we want - like chores and errands, birthday party planning and piano practicing. I really look forward to the sunny days at the park. Those are coming, right?
